Swaged shaft. The hook seats in a tough plastic insert fitted into the tip and is held in place by a length of 20 lb. line tied to a steel post on the shaft. When the fish is gaffed this line snaps to provide a clean and immediate release. A machined aluminum gimbal at the butt end of the shaft securely holds the attachment rope and with the plastic insert in the tip prevents water from seeping into the shaft. Will float. 6' shafts with 1 3/8 butt diameters.

AFTCO fiberglass, tapered gaffs feature a special thick-walled, extremely strong but lightweight e-glass handle construction custom made for extreme strength and rigidity. All of our fiberglass handles are made on proprietary mandrels using specific tapers developed by AFTCO. They are available in 4, 6 and 8 lengths and have the same 316L or N50 stainless steel hooks used in our popular Taper-Tip aluminum series of gaffs.

To complete the whole system, AFTCO now has the flying gaff rope kit for the flying gaff and hook. This 25 foot section comes complete with the stainless steel bow shackle to attach to the hook and a 12 inch loop braided in to attach to the cleat. The rope is a 1/2 inch diameter 3 strand nylon rope. Everything you need for the fish of a lifetime.
